Kokushikan University is nearing its centennial, having marked its 97th anniversary. Our university was founded in 1917 with a special emphasis on the traditional spirit of Japan. Nine tumultuous decades have passed since then, and Japan is losing its way At such a time as this, the world needs Kokushikan University, an institute of higher education that aims to train capable people who can contribute to world peace and advancement.Our university was established to create a true kokushi (a modern samurai who serves the country). A kokushi is a person of high ethics and skill who has acquired “sincerity, industriousness, insight, and spiritual strength,” the precepts of Kokushikan University. To master these four virtues requires “reading, experience,and reflection” in one’s daily life—namely, reading good books, discussing issues with good friends, taking -ing dreams and plans and taking action to achieve them, and thus setting a decisive course for one’s life. Having dreams, making efforts to realize them, knowing the joy of achieving them, and then creating new ones: this positive cycle is what moves a per-son forward in life and helps him or her to thrive.About 770 international students from 14 countries and 1 area are studying in Koku-shikan’s seven undergraduate faculties and ten graduate schools. There are many oppor-tunities for cross-cultural exchange, including exchange events with community residents.Even more importantly, the university has a solid framework, spearheaded by the International Center, to support international students and ensure that they enjoy com-fortable lives while studying in Japan. As a result of our good reputation in this area, our university accepts more and more international students every year and we have one of the largest populations of international students of any university in Japan.Focused on the education of the whole person, Kokushikan University aims to fos-ter the growth of capable people who are both outstanding scholars and outstand-ing human beings. To create a distinctive and attractive Kokushikan University that can answer to the demands of society, we will continue to pursue university reformwith an eye to meeting the needs of international students even better. I would like to see our international students study hard and take full advantage of the extracurricular activities during their time at the university. By developing a strong body and mind through much practical experience, our international students will thrive in life as leaders of society.After graduation, our international students continue to be members of the Koku-shikan family which fosters ties of goodwill and solidarity among the members of our community. I would like to see this network expand throughout the world.I wish you all the best in your studies.国士舘大学は、97周年を迎え100周年に向けて歩み出しました。大正6年に設立された本学は、日本の伝統精神の重視を掲げて生まれました。激動の九十余年が経過し、世界の状況も大きく変化している現在、日本が進むべき方向を見失い、国の情勢が大きくうねりを挙げて変化しようとしています。この時こそ、世界の平和と進運とに貢献する有為の人材を養成することを目的としている国士舘が、世界のために必要になっているのではないかと感じております。本学の原点は「国士の育成」であり、徳の高い有為な人間の育成にあります。本学の基本理念である四徳目「誠意・勤労・見識・気魄」を体得した人物が「国士」であります。その四徳目を体得するためには、日常生活において「読書・体験・反省と思索」が肝要であります。良書を読み、良友と語り、良きことは率先して体験し、結果を常に反省する。そして「思索」とは自分の夢や計画を持ち積極的に行動し、自らの人生の道筋を付けることです。自らの夢を持ち、その夢に向かって挑戦し、達成する喜びを知り、次なる夢を心に抱く。この良き人生の循環が原動力になり、人生を強く「生き抜く力」が生まれると考えています。学内には13ヶ国1地域から約600名の留学生が、7学部10大学院研究科で学んでいます。地域住民の皆様との交流会も開催されるなど、異文化交流が盛んに行われています。何より、留学生が日本で学ぶ上で安全に生活できるよう、国際交流センターを中心とした支援体制も整い、安心して学ぶことができる環境を整備しています。そのため、留学生から好評を得て年々留学生数が増加し、日本でも有数の大学となっております。本学の教育は、人間教育を柱とし、高い「学士力」と「人間力」を持ち備えた有為の人材を育成することにあります。社会の要請に応えられる「個性と魅力ある国士舘大学像」の創造をテーマに、留学生の皆様が満足していただけるよう、これからも大学改革をしてまいります。留学生の皆様は、本学でしっかりと勉学や課外活動に励み、実践的体験を積み重ねて強靱な心身を育み、これからの社会のリーダーとして強く人生を「生き抜いて！」欲しいと念願いたします。そして卒業後は」絆「、を大切にした「国士舘ファミリー」を世界に増やしていきましょう。留学生の皆様のご活躍を祈念いたします。Dr. Nobuyuki Miura　 President, Kokushikan University三浦　信行　 Born in Miyagi Prefecture in 1942, Dr. Miura graduated from Graduate School of Political Science Doctoral Courses and earned a degree of Doctor of political Science in 1972. He became Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and Economics II in 1984. He served out as a Dean of Faculty of Political Science and Economics II from 1987 to 1992, and became the Vice President of Kokushikan University and Kokushikan Junior College in 1992 until 1994. In 1993, he was elected as President of Kokushikan University and Kokushikan Junior College as well as the Board of Educational Foundation of Kokushikan and was re-elected consecutively for 3 terms until 2004.He became the Adviser for Academic Division from 2003 to November, 2012 and once again elected as President of Kokushikan University in December, 2012.Among his achievement in the University, He became the Chairman Council of Setagaya City Graded Post Reward from 2009, Board Chairman of The Japanese Association of Law and Political Science from 2011. His specialty is Politics.1942年宮城県生まれ。1971年国士舘大学大学院政治学研究科政治学専攻博士課程修了、72年政治学博士（国士舘大学）。71年本学に奉政経学部二部教授。87年から92年まで同学部学部長、92年から94年まで国士舘大学兼国士舘短期大学副学長、94年から03年まで国士舘大学兼国士舘短期大学学長、同年学校法人国士舘理事、03年から12 年 11 月まで学校法人国士舘教学顧問。12 年 12 月国士舘大学学長に就任。このほか、09年から世田谷区特別職報酬等審議会会長、11年から日本法政学会理事長。専門み　う　らのぶゆき国士舘大学学長は政治学。
