Voice of International Students

Having studied Kendo since I was a fifth-year elementary student in Korea, Japan was the obvious choice for overseas study, and I chose Kokushikan University because it is known as the best place for studying Kendo in Japan. At the university, in addition to pursuing physical education in the Department of Martial Arts of the Faculty of Physical Education, I have been studying various specialized subjects such as the history of and methods of teaching martial arts. I have also been studying the characteristics and history of Kendo in the hope of playing an important role in Kendo exchange between Japan and Korea in the future.
Before coming to Japan, I read various things about Japanese people and developed some fixed ideas, but after arriving here I met various people and came to realize that these were prejudices. My greatest pleasure has come from encountering excellent teachers and fellow-students and enjoying practicing Kendo together.
One of the greatest attributes of overseas students at Kokushikan University is the large circle of graduates (alumni association) that enables us to join forces not only during our time at the university but wherever we go in the future.
