Information
Since its foundation in 1917, Kokushikan University has been working diligently to realize the educational philosophy, which is aimed to cultivate students so that they can contribute to the world peace and development. In the statement of the purport for establishing Kokushikan University, the significance of spiritual civilization is noted, lamenting the social malady of material civilization. Also, the university has been working consistently to instill a spirit of "knowledge and action", which has become a tradition over the years, and at present, the university offers education based on this principle.

| 1962 | Faculty of Political Science and Economics adds Department of Business Administration. |
| 1963 | Faculty of Engineering opened with departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. |
| 1964 | Faculty of Engineering adds departments of Civil Engineering and Architecture. |
| 1965 | Graduate School of Political Science and Graduate School of Economics established, offering master's and doctoral courses; Faculty of Political Science and Economics II (evening division) opened, with departments of Political Science and Economics. |
| 1966 | Tsurukawa Campus opened. Faculty of Law established; Faculty of Letters established with departments of Education, History and Geography, and Literature. |
| 1992 | Tama Campus opened. |
| 1994 | Graduate School of Engineering created, offering a master's program. |
| 1995 | Graduate School of Law created, offering a master's program. Professional School of Social Welfare created. |
| 1997 | Graduate School of Business Administration opened, offering a master's program. |
| 1999 | Doctoral programs added to the graduate schools of Business Administration, Law and Engineering. |
| 2000 | Departments of Martial Arts and Sport and Medical Science added to the Faculty of Physical Education. |
| 2001 | Department of Modern Business Law added to the Faculty of Law. Graduate School of Human Sciences opened. Graduate School of Sport System opened. Department of Electrical Engineering renamed Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. |
| 2002 | School of Asia 21 established. Department of Mechanical Engineering renamed Department of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Information Technology; Department of Civil Engineering renamed Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. |
| 2003 | Doctoral programs added to the Graduate School of Sport System and Graduate School of Human Sciences.Faculty of Political Science and Economics I and II merge, offering both day and evening classes. |
| 2006 | Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Intellectual Property Laws opened. offering a master's course. Graduate School of Globalising Asia opened, offering master's and doctoral courses. |
