Our Precepts

From the day Kokushikan University was founded, we have worked tirelessly to instill a spirit of "knowledge and action" as the foundation of our educational policy. We strive to ensure that our students receive a complete ethical and physical, as well as intellectual, education. In pursuit of that ideal, we look upon the following four precepts as guiding principles.

The first precept is sincerity. Students should be sincere and wholehearted in everything they do.

The second precept is industriousness. Students must always put forth their very best effort, because that is what leads to great achievements.

The third precept is insight. One of the primary goals of a university education is the attainment of wisdom. In today's complex society, it is essential to possess the insight needed to distinguish between good and evil and strive for a better future, without being swayed by superficial impressions.

The fourth precept is spiritual strength. By this we mean the courage to overcome one's own weaknesses. We require our students, first and foremost, to be masters of themselves, not others.
