- When can I enter Kokushikan University?
- In School of Asia 21, students can be enrolled in the spring and fall semester, which is in April and September. For other faculties and graduate schools, students can be enrolled only in the spring semester, starting from April. (Different time schedules are arranged for research students.) For further information, please refer to the Academic Calendar.
- In which language are classes taught?
- All classes are taught in Japanese.
- Is it obligatory to have taken the Japanese Language Proficiency Test at Level 1 or 2 for the application? What level of Japanese language are the applicants required to take classes?
- It is not obligatory to have passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test for the application except the Graduate School of Law, Interdisciplinary Intellectual Property Laws and Sport System, which requires Level 1. However, it is ideal to have its Level 1 or 2 in order to keep up with classes.
- Am I required to take the EJU held by JASSO ?
- You are required to have taken the EJU before applying for the University for faculties except for School of Asia 21.

- Where can I take the entrance examinations?
- At Kokushikan University campuses except for the School of Asia 21's overseas admission. Please contact the School of Asia 21 for application details.
- Is a guarantor required when entering the University?
- No. It is not necessary for international students to have a guarantor.
- How can I obtain brochure /application form for the University?
- Please fill in the admission office's online request form (Japanese only) for information. Generally the application forms are to be provided from the end of September every year.
- When is the deadline for application? Can I mail the application form?
- The Kokushikan University offers two examinations for international students. One is held in November and applications are accepted at the end of October. The other is in February and applications are accepted at the beginning of January. Please read the brochure /application form for more details. You are required to bring in your application form in person to the University. We do not accept application forms sent by mail. - I am currently taking a temporally leave from university in my country. Can I apply for a transfer student at Kokushikan University?
- In order to transfer to Kokushikan University, you must have a degree of an overseas university or a junior college, or an equivalent school education (over 14 years). With the requirements satisfied, you are qualified to apply for a transfer student.
- What is the procedure and schedule to enroll in a graduate school?
- The graduate school starts accepting applications in September every year. For more details, please refer to the graduate school students' recruitment web page (Japanese only).
- How many years are required to obtain Bachelor's, Master's and doctoral degree?
- In general, it takes at least four years for Bachelor's, two years for Master's, and three years for doctoral degree.
- Where is the location of the campus?
- We have three campuses and all three of them are located in Metropolitan Tokyo (Setagaya, Machida and Tama). Students attend one of these campuses depending on their course.
- What is "Open Campus"?
- The university holds an event called "Open Campus" every year, usually for couple of days in June, July, August, September, October and March. We invite the prospective students and introduce the university. For more details, please refer to the Open Campus web page (Japanese only).
- How much is the tuition? Is there any other fee required?
- The overall tuition fees vary between courses. The approximate cost for the first year is from 1 to 1.3 million yen and payment can be arranged twice a year. Please refer to the graduate school students' recruitment web page (Japanese only) for details about the tuition fees of graduate school programs.
- Any tuition reduction for international students?
- For international students with college student visa, tuition fee is reduced by 30 percent from the overall fees.
- Is there any scholarship available?
- Please refer to the Scholarship web page.
- Is there any university dormitories for international students? How much is the accommodation fee per month? How much is the average off-campus housing cost per month?
- Please refer to Residence web page for more details about dormitories. Private apartments usually cost about 60,000 yen around the Setagaya campus area, and about 40,000 yen around the Machida/ Tama campuses. The University's Student Welfare Office will support students to find apartments.
- Can I do some part-time job with the college student visa?
- Students with college student visa may work up to 28 hours per week if they obtain a permit for extra qualification activities from the Immigration. Types of work permitted are restricted. Please take extreme caution regarding this matter, since in case of any violation of these restrictions, you may not be allowed to continue your studies in Japan.
- Does the University offer any information for students to find part-time jobs?
- The Student Welfare Office occasionally posts some jobs on the bulletin; however, many international students tend to find jobs through free papers and friends.
- Is there any place that I can ask for some advice or support during my stay in Japan?
- Each campus has a Student Counseling Room. Also, the International Center gives advice to international students. The University Clinic will be in charge of your health problems. For academic issues, you can consult with the international students' advisers. Moreover, the International Center introduces external support organizations upon your request.
