LibraryLibrary

The Kokushikan University Library is a university library of the future, providing ubiquitous advanced academic information services. In the collection and provision of scholarly information, the library system naturally has significant numbers of books and periodicals. It also provides more than 160 data terminals with continuous high speed Internet connections, enabling information searches of diverse academic databases within the university, inside Japan, and overseas.

Transmission of information is also facilitated by KISS (Knowledge Integrated Service Systems), a full-text searchable database with multimedia capabilities that supports primary information dissemination of university bulletins, academic publications, course materials, records of campus events, and even live transmissions of course lectures. Of course, KISS also converts student activities -- including visual records of important club events such as performances and games, works of art and literature -- into digital format for public release. With KISS, the Kokushikan University Library is one of the most advanced cyber libraries. The library aggregates a vast body of diverse intellectual resources which can be accessed from information terminals and mobile phones at any time, anywhere.

In short, the library of Kokushikan University is the only university library in Japan which has realized the concept of an integrated learning environment, with its ideal of an intellectual cycle leading to creations of new values, such as theses and inventions, by broadly providing a wealth of academic materials and supporting lifelong study, analysis, viewing and other information use. The library has a PC corner that is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to people in the community without other access to IT equipment. While reinforcing ties with the local community by delivering intellectual resources and allowing public access, the library helps Kokushikan University work toward building the future by putting library resources close at hand.
