Wellness Research Center

The Wellness Research Center was established in 2004 at the Tama Campus as an affiliated research facility of Kokushikan University. Its research mission is to reduce the time elderly people have to spend in nursing care to as close to zero as possible, and it conducts comprehensive research activities to achieve this goal. The main research projects currently underway at the Center include the following:

  • Methods for promoting the physical fitness of the elderly and preventing or alleviating lifestyle-related illnesses
  • Development of programs to aid the elderly in developing good exercise habits in order to prevent physical decline
  • Analysis of the effectiveness of various sports and training regimens
  • Research on emergency medical techniques and cardiovascular resuscitation for the elderly
  • Activities supporting sports events for the elderly
From the data amassed in the course of these research activities, the center is developing devices to assist in shortening nursing-home time for the elderly, developing new educational techniques, and training instructors and administrators. In addition, it is making the results of its research public, and providing a venue for advanced research and practice in this field.
